March 25, 2011

Fujitsu and Renesas announced that the companies will resume operations at some of their plants affected by the earthquake, according to a March 24, 2011 report by the Wall Street Journal. Fujitsu said the company has resumed limited operation at the plant located in Miyagi Prefecture. The Miyagi plant focuses on the later stages of chip-manufacturing process. While Fujitsu's one plant in Iwate Prefecture and two plants in Fukushima Prefecture, remain closed. The three Fujitsu plants are in charge of the early stages of chip-manufacturing process. It is reported that Renesas resumed operations at four of its seven plants in the region affected by the earthquake. It is projected that the four plants will not be able to run at full capacity due to instable power supply. Affected by controlled power shortages, the other three Renesas' plants are still closed.
